As promised, the Toronto Maple Leafs have cut a fair chunk of their training camp roster today. Twenty-three players were either moved to the Toronto Marlies, sent back to their respected junior clubs, or have been released from their try-out contracts.
Will Acton, Tyler Brenner, Josh Engel, Dave Cowan, Denny Urban, Matt Caruana, Jamie Devane, Brayden Irwin, Kyle Neuber and Kelsey Wilson will now have the opportunity to train and continue to develop for and through the upcoming AHL season.
David Broll (OHL - Sault Ste. Marie), Stuart Percy (OHL - Mississauga), Garrett Sparks (OHL - Guelph), Josh Nicholls (WHL - Saskatoon), Sondre Olden (OHL - Erie), Sam Carrick (OHL - Brampton), Brad Ross (WHL - Portland), Josh Leivo (OHL - Sudbury), and Andrew Crescenzi (OHL - Kitchener).
Garrett Clarke, Mitchell Heard, Mike Schwindt, Matt Stanisz have all been officially released from their try-out.
Kenny Ryan and Greg McKegg continue to gain experience from camp and could see more action as soon as tonight.
Ron Wilson has now confirmed he plans to have the roster cut down from the remaining 47 players to around 28 to 30 by the weekend.
Toronto resumes action tonight as they complete a home and home showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Leafs have released their roster for tonight, but have yet to confirm who will be a healthy scratch from the event.
